My approach
☻
Relational
Learning is an instinct; therefore, each person learns, always. While you attend English Room, you can do that at your own pace and in a relationship facilitated by the learning mentor, in the group or one-to-one. Teaching and learning differ in that the first is about instructions and the second is about what drives one’s curiosity and motivation and what impedes learning. Here, it is a mixture of both.
❋
Adaptive
Sessions develop and change as your skills get better. They are structure-oriented while considering learning needs; all abilities are included. As creativity sparks and progress takes place, a sense of autonomy develops, and new interests emerge, while you start to feel competent and assertive. You might experience a feeling that everything is starting to fall into place (you can read, you can write, and you can be creative).
✦
Comprehensive
The academic aspects of the approach are informed by the British Curriculum. The focus is on concentration, argumentation, and analytical skills. All the above takes place according to your abilities and interests, both in terms of cognitive and emotional development. Your interest might be high-level (addressing complex themes) but low-level text (less complex language structures). All that is taken into consideration.
✿
Personalised
The goals are tailored to your specific needs, matching your objectives, whether it is phonics and decoding because you are new to English, conversation practice and cultural awareness, diving into literature, grammar or creative writing. Before you start your sessions with the learning mentor, there will be a chat to get to know you and understand how to help you best. We’ll also check in each term to see how things are going, following the school year in the UK.
